The All-Ireland group, Mammies for Trans Rights are aiming to march in as many Prides around the country as they can get to this summer
The Mammies for Trans Rights are an All Ireland group of mammies and allies of Trans kids with members all over the country, north and south of the border and they’re aiming to march in as many Prides around the country as they can get to this summer.
The groups wants to get the message out to Trans kids and their families that they are loved and valued and accepted in their communities. The Mammies are asking that everyone who wants to support Trans and LGBTQI+ kids and community this year march in their local Pride Parade and send the message that they are safe and loved.
“We are deeply concerned about the wildly misleading information that is out there at the moment about Trans kids and adults,” said Clare Flynn, Co-Chair of Mammies for Trans Rights. “There’s a lot of wild stories and hysteria around that are making everyone feel afraid and we’re terrified for our kids,” she said.
Karen Sugrue, co-chair of Mammies for Trans Rights said, “violence toward LGBTQI people is increasing alarmingly and there is an especially worrying amount of aggression towards Trans people”.
“We are calling on the army of mammies, daddies, grandparents, siblings, and allies that came out in 2015 and again in 2018 when our young people were in danger and their rights were being threatened. They are in danger again and so we need to call the army together again – we are asking everyone to march this Pride,” she said.
Karen, Clare and mammies and allies from all over the country will be marching in Dublin Pride this Saturday the 24th, in Cork Trans Pride on July 1st, Limerick Pride July 8th, and Belfast Pride on July 29th.
