Limerick Pride Festival 2022 is scheduled to run from Monday, July 4 until Sunday, July 10 with the Limerick Pride 2022 parade taking place Saturday, July 9.
The Limerick Pride committee is now accepting registrations for groups for this year’s Limerick Pride 2022 parade.
The Limerick Pride 2022 parade will take place on Saturday, July 9, when the parade will gather at Merchants Quay at 12.50 pm and leave at 2.15 pm promptly, following the route up O’Connell Street and back to the Hunt Museum for the annual Pridefest event.
International drag queen, drag race alumni, and Celebrity Big Brother UK winner, Courtney Act has also been announced to headline the Climax Party in Dolans which takes place the evening of Saturday, July 9. Courtney Act competed in the first season of Australian Idol in 2003, and she was the first LGBTQ+ contestant to openly appear on a reality show. In 2014, Courtney was a runner-up in season six of RuPaul’s Drag Race. In June of 2019, she was placed third on the list of the ‘most powerful drag queens in America’, a ranking of 100 former Drag Race contestants.
Lisa Daly, Chairperson of Limerick Pride told I Love Limerick, “We are absolutely thrilled to have Courtney Act as the headliner for this year’s Pride Climax party in Dolans. Courtney is a renowned and recognized international star and will be sure to entertain everyone who attends the annual event this coming Pride.”
This is the first year that the Limerick Pride parade has been set to go ahead physically since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic. For the last two years, the festival has taken place virtually. Last year, Limerick Pride won a Non-Profit Community Group of the Year Munster Innovation Award for Virtual Events at the Irish Enterprise Awards 2022, hosted by EU Business News for their 2021 Pride Festival.
Despite the pandemic, the online 2021 event included various workshops, the Rainbow River Swim Parade and a host of adult and family entertainment. While Limerick Pride succeeded in having a fantastic virtual event, they are thrilled to be able to hold a live parade again for 2022.
The theme of the 2022 festival, its events and the Grand Marshall for this year have yet to be announced.
Limerick Pride is a thriving community that works together and with other organizations to progress gay rights and culture in Limerick city and county.
Richard Lynch, PRO of Limerick Pride Festival commented, “We are absolutely thrilled this year to go back to having a physical parade after two years of virtual parades. We can’t wait to fly all the colours of rainbow pride in all their glory up O’Connell Street on Saturday, July 9, and we want to invite everyone in Limerick to come out and celebrate our LGBTQIA community.”
